The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is one of the world’s most exciting T20 cricket tournaments. It is known for its vibrant atmosphere, performances, and passionate Caribbean crowd. Over the years, the CPL has seen many winners, with one team dominating.

Launched in 2013, this league has given fans some unforgettable cricketing moments. The Jamaica Tallawahs claimed the first CPL title, beating the Guyana Amazon Warriors. 

Fast-forward to 2024, and the CPL delivered yet another thrilling finish. The Saint Lucia Kings finally lifted their maiden title, defeating the Guyana Amazon Warriors, this time led by Imran Tahir.

1. Saint Lucia Kings – 2024 Winners

The Saint Lucia Kings clinched their maiden CPL title on October 6, 2024, by defeating the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 6 wickets at the Providence Stadium, Guyana. Chasing a target of 139, the Kings were in a precarious position at 51/4.

However, a remarkable unbeaten partnership between Aaron Jones (48* off 31 balls) and Roston Chase (39* off 22 balls) turned the game around, leading them to victory with 11 balls to spare. 

For the Warriors, Dwaine Pretorius contributed a quick 25 off 12 balls, while Romario Shepherd added an unbeaten 19 off 9 balls, for a total of 138/8.

2. Guyana Amazon Warriors – 2023 Winners

On September 24, 2023, at Providence Stadium, the Guyana Amazon Warriors clinched their maiden CPL title by defeating the Trinbago Knight Riders.

Key performances came from Dwaine Pretorius, who took 4 wickets for 26 runs, and Saim Ayub, who scored an unbeaten 52. The Warriors secured a 9-wicket victory with 36 balls remaining.

3. Jamaica Tallawahs – 2022 Winners

On 30th September 2022, at Providence Stadium, Guyana, Jamaica Tallawahs defeated Barbados Royals by 8 wickets to win their third CPL title.

Brandon King starred with an unbeaten 83* for Jamaica, while Kyle Mayers was the top performer for the Royals.

4. St Kitts & Nevis Patriots – 2021 Winners

On September 15, 2021, at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots clinched their maiden CPL title by defeating Saint Lucia Kings by 3 wickets. The Patriots chased down the target successfully, with Dwayne Bravo playing a crucial role.

Roston Chase stood out for the Kings with a key performance. The match saw the Patriots’ superb chase, securing a historic victory for the team.

5. Trinbago Knight Riders – 2020 Winners

Trinbago Knight Riders won the 2020 Caribbean Premier League by defeating St. Lucia Zouks by 8 wickets. The match took place on September 10, 2020, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba.

Trinbago Knight Riders chased down the target comfortably, led by an outstanding performance from Kieron Pollard. St. Lucia Zouks’ key player was Rahkeem Cornwall, who put up a fighting display. 

6. Barbados Tridents – 2019 Winners

In the 2019 CPL final, Barbados Tridents defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors by 27 runs. The match took place on September 15, 2019, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba.

With a brilliant knock, Johnson Charles was Barbados’s key performer, while Shimron Hetmyer was Guyana’s standout. The Tridents set a challenging total, and despite a strong effort from the Warriors, Barbados held their ground to clinch the title.

7. Trinbago Knight Riders – 2018

In the 2018 CPL final, Trinbago Knight Riders triumphed over Guyana Amazon Warriors by 8 wickets to claim the title. The match was held on September 16, 2018, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba.

Shane Watson starred with the bat for Trinbago, scoring a crucial 43 runs off 31 balls, while Kieron Pollard contributed with 3 wickets. For the Warriors, Shoaib Malik top-scored with 28 runs, and Imran Tahir picked up 2 wickets. TKR chased down Guyana’s total comfortably, winning by 8 wickets.

8. Trinbago Knight Riders – 2017 Winners

On September 9, 2017, Trinbago Knight Riders claimed their second CPL title by defeating St Kitts & Nevis Patriots by 3 wickets at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. The Patriots set a target of 136/8 in their 20 overs, with Evin Lewis top-scoring with 41 runs.

The Knight Riders chased it down, scoring 137/7 in 19.3 overs, thanks to an impactful knock by Colin Munro (56 runs). Key performances came from Sunil Narine, who took 3 wickets for 19 runs for the Knight Riders, and Ben Cutting with 2 wickets for the Patriots.

9. Jamaica Tallawahs – 2016 Winners

In the 2016 Caribbean Premier League final, Jamaica Tallawahs defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors by 9 wickets to clinch the title. The match took place on July 9, 2016, at Warner Park, Basseterre.

Chris Gayle played a key role for Jamaica, scoring a quick-fire 54 runs off 35 balls. For Guyana, Martin Guptill contributed with 40 runs but could not prevent the Tallawahs from dominating. 

Jamaica Tallawahs comfortably chased down Guyana’s total, winning with 9 wickets.

10. Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel – 2015 Winners

Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel claimed the 2015 CPL title by defeating Barbados Tridents by 20 runs. The match, held at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, saw the Red Steel set a challenging target, scoring 175/7 in their 20 overs.

Dwayne Bravo, Red Steel’s key player, contributed with both bat and ball, scoring 20 runs and taking 3 wickets for 19 runs. Kieron Pollard was the standout performer for the Barbados Tridents, scoring 41 runs, but it wasn’t enough to chase down the target.

11. Barbados Tridents – 2014 Winners

In the 2014 CPL final, the Barbados Tridents triumphed over the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 8 runs (D/L method).

The match, played on August 16, 2014, at Warner Park, Basseterre, saw Kieron Pollard shine with the bat, scoring 48 runs off 35 balls for the Tridents. 

Chris Lynn contributed 42 runs for the Amazon Warriors, but it wasn’t enough to chase the D/L target. The Tridents won the match by 8 runs.

12. Jamaica Tallawahs – 2013 Winners

In the 2013 CPL Final, Jamaica Tallawahs claimed the title by defeating Guyana Amazon Warriors by 7 wickets at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, on August 24, 2013.

Chris Gayle led the Tallawahs with an explosive performance, scoring 42 runs off 32 balls, while Dwayne Smith contributed 47 runs for the Warriors. 

In the bowling department, Shivnarine Chanderpaul top-scored for the Warriors with 3 wickets but could not defend the total, allowing the Tallawahs to chase it down comfortably.
