India came to the Birmingham Test with a deficit earned in the first Test. The management decided to include Jasprit Bumrah, the most successful Indian bowler in recent times. India’s chances of winning the match were very bleak. Akash Deep was picked in the playing 11 to replace Bumrah.

India last won a Test series in England back in 2007 and Zaheer Khan won the Player of the Series award. He took 18 wickets in six outings at an average of 20.33. In the second Test of the series, Zaheer took four wickets for 59 runs in the first innings. He followed that with a five-wicket haul in the second innings. 2. Chetan Sharma – 10/188 (1986)
Chetan Sharma played a total of 23 Test matches for India. The year 1986 was the most successful for Chetan as he took 21 wickets in seven games. On India’s tour of England in the same year, Chetan finished as the leading wicket-taker and helped India win the series by 2-0.
In the third Test, Chetan picked four wickets in the first innings for 130 runs in 29.3 overs. In the second innings, Chetan delivered his best bowling figures in Test cricket. He took six wickets for 58 runs in 24 overs.
1. Akash Deep – 10/187 (2025)
Akash became the most successful bowler in England in his debut. He picked up four wickets for 88 runs in the first innings of the Edgbaston Test. He saved his best for the second innings and took six wickets for 99 runs in 21.1 overs. It was his first five-wicket haul in a small Test career of eight matches. He took a total of 10 wickets for 187 runs, and this was his first 10-wicket haul in a Test match.
