The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that the cricket matches will start from July 12 to July 29 at the LA Olympics 2028. The IOC had already announced in April that six teams would participate in the event.

However, the complete schedule will be announced soon. The medal matches will be played on July 20 for the women’s event and on July 29 for the men’s event.

The Olympics T20 event follows cricket’s presence in multi-sport competitions like the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. These tournaments expanded the sport’s global reach by increasing the number of countries that play cricket, which ultimately helped cricket earn its place in the Olympics.

Team Size and Match Timings

The Olympic committee has decided on only 90 players for each gender. A total of 6 teams will participate in this Olympic edition. According to the rules, a team can have only 15 players in its squad for the Olympic Games. All matches will be played at the Fairgrounds in Pomana in T20 format, as other formats will take a longer time to finish.

Although the committee has decided that only six teams will participate, their mode of qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games has not been decided yet. There is news that it will be discussed during the ICC’s Annual Conference in Singapore, which will take place on July 17.
