The auction for the fourth season of SA20 took place on Tuesday, September 9, in Johannesburg. A total of 541 players went under the hammer, out of which 300 Proteas players were in the auction pool. Each team was there in the auction to complete their 19-player squad. At the end of the auction, a total of 84 players were sold.

Each team needed to pick a minimum of two Under-23 South African players. A maximum of seven overseas players and at least nine local South African players were required in each team. Each team could pick one additional Wildcard player. Pretoria Capitals had the biggest purse at the auction table with USD 1.86 million. MI Cape Town came to the auction with a purse value of USD 0.65 million, which was the smallest purse.
Dewald Brevis became the most expensive player in the history of the SA20 Auction and was picked by Pretoria Capitals for a price of R16.5 million. Aiden Markram, who captained the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the first three seasons of the league. Markram decided to put his name in the auction this year and was picked by the Durban Super Giants for a price of R14 million.

Some of the other most expensive players in the SA20 Auction were Wiaan Mulder, who was picked by the Joburg Super Kings for R9 million. He was the third-most expensive player in the auction this year. Gerald Coetzee (R7.4 million to Durban Super Giants), Nandre Burger (R6.3 million to Joburg Super Kings), Matthew Breetzke (R6.1 million to Sunrisers Eastern Cape), Rassie van der Dussen (R5.2 million to MI Cape Town), Ottneil Baartman (R5.1 million to Paarl Royals), and Anrich Nortje (R5 million to Sunrisers Eastern Cape) were some of the other expensive buys at the auction.

SA20 2026 Auction: Full List Of Unsold Players
Many international stars went unsold in the auction. Players like Moeen Ali and Jason Roy, who have already played in the league, couldn’t find a buyer this year. James Anderson, who registered himself for the first time in the auction, also didn’t find any team making a bid for him.
Domestic players like Simon Harmer, Junior Dala, Andile Phehlukwayo, Leus Du Plooy, JJ Smuts, also didn’t find any buyer at the SA20 Auction. A total of 13 Indian players registered themselves for the auction, including Piyush Chawla, Siddharth Kaul, and Ankit Rajpoot. However, no Indian player was picked by any franchise in the auction.
