The Hong Kong Sixes 2025 will run for 3 days, from November 7 to 9, 2025. It is a six-a-side tournament, and each match consists of six overs. A total of 12 international teams participated in the tournament during the last edition, which was played in 2024. These teams were divided into four groups, each containing three teams.

Each team faced the other two teams in their group once. The top two teams from each group moved to the quarter-final, while all four third-placed teams competed in the Bowl league. The top two teams in the Bowl league qualified for the Bowl final. 

The winners of the quarter-final qualified for the semi-finals, and the winners played the final game. The losing teams competed in the Plate semi-finals. The winner of the Plate semi-finals advanced to the Plate final.

The Cricket Hong Kong has not announced the complete schedule of the tournament yet. Let’s look at the format, updates, and rules of the tournament.

Format of Hong Kong Sixes 2025

In this tournament format, all teams first compete in the group stage, where each side plays its group rivals once. At the end of this stage, the top two teams from each group will advance directly into the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, the teams that finish third in their group do not advance to the next round. Instead, they will compete in the Bowl competition, which will give them further opportunities to compete for the Bowl final.

The winners of the quarter-finals will move forward into the semi-finals. On the other side, the losing sides from the quarter-finals are not eliminated either. They will play the Plate semi-finals.

At last, this 6-over tournament will end with the final. The first final will be played between the winners of the semi-finals. There will be a plate final and a bowl league final.

Dinesh Kartik & Ashwin Will Participate in Hong Kong Sixes 2025

Although teams haven’t announced their squad, there is news from the Indian side. Veteran Indian cricketers Dinesh Karthik and Ravichandran Ashwin will feature in the high-voltage Hong Kong Sixers 2025 tournament from the Indian side.

Karthik will lead the Indian squad and will participate for the first time. Meanwhile, Ashwin will bring balance and leadership to the bowling attack. Inclusion of these international players will improve its popularity among global fans. 

Key Rules of the Hong Kong Sixes 2025

Here are the key rules of Hong Kong Sixes 2025

  • Each team can play with six players in each game.
  • Matches consist of a maximum of 6 overs per side, with each over having 6 balls in regular matches.
  • Every player in the fielding side, except the wicketkeeper, must bowl exactly one over, and wides & no-balls incur a penalty of 2 runs each. There is no free hit for a no-ball. 
  • When a batsman reaches 50 runs, they must retire not out but can return to bat once all other players have retired or been dismissed.
  • If five wickets fall before the six overs are completed, the last remaining batsman continues to bat with the fifth dismissed player acting as a runner.
  • The not-out batsman must always take strike in this last-wicket scenario, and the innings ends with the dismissal of the last batter.
  • Each match lasts about 45 minutes to maintain a fast and entertaining pace.
