The BCCI is likely to announce the dates for the IPL 2026 very soon. As per a report from Cricbuzz, the auction might take place in the second or the third week of December. According to the report, franchise officials who have had a discussion regarding the auction with BCCI have mentioned that December 13-15 might be the date for the auction.

However, the IPL governing council and the BCCI are yet to release the schedule. The auction for the last two editions of the league took place in Dubai (2023) and in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (2024). However, it is still not clear the location for the mini-auction. The auction might take place in India only this year.
One thing that is clear according to the report is that the deadline for player retention is November 15. The franchise has over a month to decide which players will be released before heading to the mini-auction by November 15.
Which Players Might Get Released Before The IPL 2026 Auction?

The Royals are likely to release Sanju Samson if they don’t manage to find a trade deal for him. There have been some reports that suggested the Sri Lankan spin duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana might be on the released players list. However, with Kumar Sangakkara set for return as head coach, both the spinners might be retained.
