Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma became the number one ODI batter in ICC rankings for the first time in his career after the three-match Australia series. Earlier, his highest career ranking was number two, which he achieved in July 2018 and held until January 2020.

In the first game of the Australia series, Rohit was dismissed for eight runs. In the second game, Rohit made 73 runs off 97 deliveries. It was his 10th half-century in ODIs against Australia, the most he has made against any team except the West Indies. 

In the third ODI, Rohit made 121 runs off 125 deliveries and won the Player of the Match award. It was his ninth century against Australia and equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring the most centuries against Australia. He won the Player of the Match award for his batting performance. He finished as the leading run-scorer in the series and won the Player of the Series award. With his sixth Player of the Series award, Rohit has now matched the number achieved by MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly. Only Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Yuvraj Singh have won more Player of the Series awards than Rohit in ODIs.
