The 33rd edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy got underway today, and a total of 19 matches are being played on the first day of the tournament. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are playing in this edition of the tournament for Delhi and Mumbai, respectively. However, all the limelight was snatched by the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

Playing for Bihar, Vaibhav slammed a 36-ball century against Arunachal Pradesh and finished with 190 runs off 84 deliveries. His innings helped Bihar post a total of 574 runs for the loss of six wickets, the highest total in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

1. Bihar (574/6) vs Arunachal Pradesh, 2025
Bihar faced Arunachal Pradesh in the plate group match on December 24 and elected to bat after winning the toss. The batting was dominated by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Ayush Loharuka, and Sakibul Gani. Vaibhav was the second batter to get dismissed and got out after making 190 runs at a strike rate of 226.19. He became the youngest batter to score a century in List A cricket. Vaibhav took 59 deliveries to complete his 150, the fastest in List A cricket. He broke the record of AB de Villiers, who took 64 deliveries to reach the mark.

The next set of batters didn’t let the run rate drop. Gani made a 32-ball century and remained unbeaten on 128 runs off 40 deliveries. Ayush scored 116 runs off 56 deliveries. Bihar finished with 574 runs for the loss of six wickets and made the highest total in the Vijay Hazare Trophy’s history.
2. Tamil Nadu (506/2) vs Arunachal Pradesh, 2022
Arunachal Pradesh features on this list once again as an opponent. In 2022, Tamil Nadu became the first team to cross the 500-run mark in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Tamil Nadu batted first, and the openers, Sai Sudharsan and Narayan Jagadeesan, added 416 runs for the first wicket. It is the highest partnership for any wicket in a List A game.

Jagadeesan was in a different mood that day and piled up 277 runs off just 141 deliveries. It is still the highest individual score in a List A game. Tamil Nadu finished with 506 runs for the loss of two wickets. Arunachal Pradesh were bundled out for 71 runs, and Tamil Nadu won the match by 435 runs. It was the first and only time a team won a List A game with a margin of more than 400 runs.
3. Mumbai (457/4) vs Puducherry, 2021
In 2021, Mumbai became the first team to cross the 450-run mark in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Prithvi Shaw led the side from the front and played an unbeaten knock of 227 runs off 152 deliveries. He had a partnership of 201 runs along with Suryakumar Yadav for the third wicket. Suryakumar scored 133 runs off 58 deliveries.

Mumbai posted a total of 457 runs for the loss of four wickets on the board. Shaw became the eighth Indian batter to make a double-century in List A cricket. In reply, Puducherry got bundled out for 224 runs and lost the match by 233 runs.
4. Maharashtra (427/6) vs Manipur, 2023
On December 5, 2023, Maharashtra faced Manipur in a Group B game. Manipur elected to bowl after winning the toss. Ankit Bawne hit 167 runs off 105 deliveries and led Maharashtra to a total of 427 runs for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs. The openers, Om Bhosale and Kaushal Tambe, made a half-century each.

In reply, Manipur made 260 runs for the loss of six wickets and lost the match by 167 runs. Ankit was the second-highest run-scorer that season and finished with 506 runs in seven innings.
5. Punjab (426/4) vs Hyderabad, 2025
Punjab posted their highest List A total against Hyderabad in the last edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Punjab’s star-studded batting lineup helped the team post a total of 426 runs for the loss of four wickets. Prabhsimran Singh made 137 runs off 105 deliveries.

Abhishek Sharma scored 93 runs, while Ramandeep Singh played a knock of 80 runs off 53 deliveries. Nehal Wadhera and Anmolpreet Singh also made some decent contributions. Hyderabad did well with the bat but fell short of the target by 80 runs after getting all out on 346 runs. Prabhsimran won the Player of the Match award for his batting performance.
