Chennai Super Kings, a highly successful IPL franchise, currently does not have a women’s team. The Women’s Premier League features five teams from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.
The First Target Is To Participate In WPL
Chennai Super Kings, the iconic franchise from Chennai, has announced its plans to step into women’s cricket. After four seasons of the Women’s Premier League, CSK now wants to join the league. As one of the most successful teams in Indian cricket, CSK views women’s cricket as its main goal while they look to grow their overall presence in the future.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan made this announcement at the Tamil Nadu Global Tourism Summit 2026. He said that the franchise will not enter women’s cricket right now. However, CSK has clear plans to invest in the women’s game soon. Viswanathan also said that CSK might look at other sports later.
Not Immediately, But Certainly In The Coming Years
Currently, CSK remains one of the IPL teams that does not own a WPL franchise. The Women’s Premier League has five teams. These teams represent Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh. Several big IPL franchises like Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad do not have women’s teams yet.
“Not immediately, but certainly in the coming years, CSK will expand its footprint. Our first target will be women’s cricket. We may also go into other sports over time,” Viswanathan said when asked about the franchise’s future plans.
