Italy created history in the T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier 2025 as they managed to qualify for the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next year. Italy faced the Netherlands in the last game of the T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier 2025 on July 11.

The team led by Joe Burns won the toss and elected to bat. Italy lost two wickets in the power play and managed 40 runs in the first six overs. By the end of the 10th over, the team scored 52 runs for the loss of four wickets. Italy lost one more wicket and managed 94 runs at the end of the 15th over.
In the last five overs, Italy scored 60 runs and finished with 134 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Ben Manenti was the highest scorer for the team and made 30 runs off 27 deliveries. Roelof van der Merwe was the pick of the bowlers and took three wickets for 15 runs in four overs.

Michael Levitt and Max ODowd opened the batting for the Netherlands. They added 71 runs for the first wicket in 7.3 overs. Levitt was dismissed in the 8th over and made 34 runs off 25 deliveries. Skipper Scott Edwards joined ODowd in the middle.
The Netherlands took 16.2 overs to reach the target of 135 runs with nine wickets in hand. ODowd remained unbeaten on 47 runs off 42 deliveries, while Edwards was not out on 37 runs off 31 deliveries. van der Merwe won the Player of the Match award for his bowling performance.

The Netherlands won three out of four games and finished in first place in the points table. Their only loss came against Scotland. Italy defeated Guernsey and Scotland and were in second place. One of their matches against Jersey ended in a no-result due to rain.
A total of 20 teams will participate in the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup in 2026. A total of 15 teams, including the hosts India and Sri Lanka, have already qualified for the playoffs. Two teams will make it to the tournament from the Africa Qualifier, while the remaining three teams will qualify through the Asia–EAP Qualifier.
