The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the richest cricket board in the world. At the end of the last financial year, the BCCI reported a total income of INR 9,741.71 crore. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest income source of the BCCI. If we talk about the net worth, it is approximately INR 18,750 crores ($2.25 billion) in 2025.

Other key sources of income for the governing body are income from ICC distributions, media rights, interest income, and the Women’s Premier League. Other income sources include the matches that the men’s and women’s team plays throughout the year.

The recent “Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025” had a negative effect on the net worth of the BCCI. The bill banned real-money gaming and fantasy sports platforms, which were the major sponsors of Indian cricket. Dream11, one of the biggest fantasy platforms in the country, was the jersey sponsor of the Indian cricket team. The BCCI had to cut short its ties with the firm after the ban.

The real impact of the bill will be visible when the BCCI releases its annual report next year. However, it won’t have a major effect as cricket is one of the most-watched sports in the country, and the board will likely fetch a huge sum of money from different sponsors.

Here’s all you need to know about the BCCI, its net worth, the comparison of the Indian board with other cricketing boards, and the influence that the BCCI has over the game of cricket due to its financial positioning.

BCCI Historical Context

Cricket was introduced to the country by the British, and the first recorded match was played in 1751. By the end of the 18th century, a lot of local cricket clubs were already established in the country. In 1912, an all-Indian cricket team traveled to England, sponsored and captained by the Maharaja of Patiala.

In November 1927, a meeting was held in Delhi and was attended by delegates from most of the provinces that were a part of India at that time. The delegates agreed on forming a governing body for the control of cricket in India. Thus, the BCCI was formed in December 1928. R. E. Grant Govan was elected as its first president, and Anthony de Mello was secretary.

India made its Test debut in 1932 under the captaincy of CK Nayudu. In 1936, the BCCI started the Ranji Trophy, India’s premier first-class cricket tournament, named after the King of Nawanagar state, K.S. Ranjitsinhji, who played for England in international cricket.

In 1983, the Indian men’s cricket team lifted the World Cup trophy in England, and it became the catalyst for the growth of the game in the country. India, along with Pakistan, hosted the next edition of the World Cup. Since then, the BCCI has hosted multiple ICC events.

Current Net Worth and Financial Position
