It is Rahul’s second Test century in India and it came after a gap of 3211 days, which is the longest gap for an Indian batter between two centuries at home. Rahul made his maiden Test century in India in 2016 against England at Chennai. This was the same game where Karun Nair made his triple-century. Rahul was dismissed on 199 runs and missed a well-deserved double-century. Since then, he scored 10 half-centuries in India but failed to reach the triple-figure mark.

It took him 26 innings to record his second century in India. Rahul has joined the list of batters with the most innings between two Test centuries at home in India. Ashwin is on top of this list, and it took him 36 innings. Syed Kirmani is in second place with 32 innings, while Chandu Borde took 27 innings. Apart from Rahul, Vijay Manjrekar, Polly Umrigar, Kapil Dev, and Ajinkya Rahane also took the same number of innings to score their next century at home.
