Over the years, the tournament has changed into zonal and state teams. In the zonal style, there were different winners for each zone, but since the introduction of state teams, only one team has become the champion.

One of the memorable seasons came in 2021–22 when Himachal Pradesh won their first-ever Vijay Hazare Trophy by beating Tamil Nadu. Saurashtra claimed the 2022–23 title after defeating Maharashtra. Haryana became the champions in 2023–24 by beating Rajasthan at Rajkot.

The most recent champions, Karnataka, won the 2024–25 Vijay Hazare Trophy by defeating Vidarbha at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. With this victory, Karnataka once again proved why they are one of the strongest domestic sides in India.

Vidarbha Won First Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26

The 2025–26 season was a historic moment for Vidarbha as they won their first-ever Vijay Hazare Trophy. Saurashtra tried to chase the target with half-centuries from Prerak Mankad and Chirag Jani, but Vidarbha’s bowling was too strong.
