The West Indies cricket team’s star all-rounder Andre Russell has announced his retirement from International cricket. The 37-year-old hard-hitting batter will feature in the first two T20I matches against Australia in his homeland, Jamaica.
After suffering a 3-0 clean sweep in the three Test matches played at home, the West Indies will now host Australia for a five-match T20I series to be played between July 21-29. The first two matches will be played at the Sabina Park Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, while the remaining three matches will be played in St. Kitts.
Andre Russell Says Goodbye to International Cricket
Andre Russell is a household name in T20 cricket around the world and has been playing in only the T20I format for the West Indies for the past several years. It was unexpected that the all-rounder would make this choice given the West Indies’ participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Russell was part of the West Indies squad that won the T20 World Cup in 2012 and again in 2016. He has played 84 T20I matches prior to the Australia series and has scored 1078 runs with a strike rate of 163.1 and taken 61 wickets.
“Words cannot explain what it meant. To represent the West Indies has been one of the proudest achievements in my life,” Russell said in his retirement note.
“I love playing for the West Indies and I love playing at home in front of my family and friends where I get to showcase my talent and produce more high-quality performances. I want to finish my international career on a high while being a role model for the next generation of cricketers coming out of the Caribbean,” he added.

Cricket West Indies uploaded a “Thank You, Dre Russ” post on Instagram to show gratitude towards his contribution to West Indies Cricket.
