The Hobart Hurricanes, last season’s champs, are back at Bellerive Oval to face the Melbourne Renegades on December 29 for Match 15 of BBL 2025-26. Right now, the Hurricanes sit comfortably in second place with three wins from four games. The Renegades, though, are stuck at the bottom, scraping together just one win from two matches.

These teams only met a week ago, and it wasn’t pretty for Melbourne. The Hurricanes rolled over them, chasing down the target with seven wickets in hand and still 37 balls left. That defeat hurt, and you can bet the Renegades are itching for payback in Hobart.

The Hurricanes are coming off a nail-biter, taking down the Perth Scorchers by four wickets. Nikhil Chaudhary’s on a tear, piling up 161 runs in four games. Add Ben McDermott and Mitchell Owen at the top, and you’ve got a batting lineup that can really put pressure on any attack.

Melbourne leans hard on Tim Seifert, and he’s been delivering—136 runs in just two innings, including a brilliant century against Brisbane Heat. Young Oliver Peake has chipped in too, blasting 71 in the last two innings runs at a strike rate of 170. Still, they need more from Mohammad Rizwan and Jake Fraser-McGurk, who haven’t found their groove yet.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades Match Preview

Bellerive Oval is a real test for both sides. Early on, the pacers get movement, especially with the Derwent River winds swirling around.

It’s tough at first, but once batters settle in, the runs start to flow. Spinners also come into play thanks to the long square boundaries, which tempt big hits—and often end with catches in the deep.

Toss Prediction

The Hurricanes love playing here. They’ve strung together eight straight wins at Ninja Stadium, even chasing down scores above 180 in recent matches. The pitch tends to play tricky up front before easing out, so expect the skipper who wins the toss to choose batting first and aim for something over 165. Chasing under lights isn’t easy.

Injury Updates

Hobart Hurricanes: Tim David will miss an extended period with a hamstring injury he picked up against the Perth Scorchers. Matthew Wade returns after sitting out the last game with a minor issue. Beau Webster joins the squad after getting released from Test duty for one match.

Melbourne Renegades: Tom Rogers remains out injured. Caleb Jewell comes into the squad. The rest of the team is fit and ready.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades Head-to-Head Records

When it comes to head-to-head, the Hurricanes have the Renegades’ number—13 wins out of 22 meetings. In Hobart, it’s even more one-sided. The Renegades haven’t managed a win at Bellerive Oval since 2017, dropping six straight games here. That’s a streak the home side won’t want to end anytime soon.
