The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended the membership of the USA Cricket on an immediate basis. ICC termed the suspension a “necessary step to protect the long-term interests of the game.” As per ICC, the suspension comes as a result of “repeated and continued breaches of its obligations by USA Cricket as an ICC Member under the ICC’s Constitution.”

The ICC gave out a detailed explanation regarding the suspension in their statement. “The International Cricket Council (ICC), after a thorough review of affairs and extensive engagement with key stakeholders over the past year, today confirmed the suspension of ICC membership status of USA Cricket, with immediate effect,” said the ICC in their statement.
“The decision, taken by the ICC Board during its meeting earlier, was based on USA Cricket’s repeated and continued breaches of its obligations as a ICC Member under the ICC’s Constitution. These include, but are not limited to, the failure to implement a functional governance structure, lack of progress toward achieving National Governing Body status with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and significant actions that have caused reputational damage to cricket in the United States and around the world,” it adds.
The USA Cricket Team Can Still Participate In ICC Events
The USA Cricket was already placed ‘on notice’ during the ICC Annual General Meeting last year for non-compliance with ICC Membership Criteria. It was given 12 months to work on that non-compliance. The statement released by the ICC clearly mentioned that the national team of the USA can still participate in ICC events. The men’s national team is scheduled to feature in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

The management and administration of the USA national teams will be temporarily overseen by the ICC and/or its designated representatives. The ICC Normalisation Committee and the ICC management will now decide the steps on how the membership of the USA Cricket will be restored in the near future.
