India won the second Test of the two-match series against the West Indies by seven wickets. The West Indies did really well with the bat in their second innings and gave India a target of 121 runs to win. KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 55 runs and helped India record a win.

India won the toss and elected to bat in this game. It was the first time Shubman Gill won the toss in his captaincy career so far. Yashasvi Jaiswal (175 runs) and Shubman Gill (129 runs) helped India post a total of 518 runs before declaring in the first innings. Jomel Warrican was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies and took three wickets.

The batters didn’t have a great outing with the bat for the West Indies in their first innings. None of them managed to cross the 40-run mark, and the West Indies were bundled out for 248 runs. India enforced a follow-on, and the West Indies lost the first two wickets for 35 runs. It looked like another innings loss was on the cards. 

However, John Campbell and Shai Hope changed the fortune of their team with a partnership of 177 runs. Both batters scored a century each and were dismissed when the West Indies had almost 300 runs on the board. Jayden Seales and Justin Greaves had a partnership of 79 runs for the 10th wicket. West Indies scored 390 runs in their second innings and gave India a target of 121 runs to win. It was the first time the West Indies crossed the 350-run mark in Tests in India since 2011. Also, it was the West Indies’ third-highest total in India in the third innings.

India lost the wicket of Jaiswal in the second over of the second innings. He made eight runs off seven deliveries before getting dismissed. Sai Sudharsan joined Rahul in the middle, and the duo added 79 runs for the second wicket. Sudharsan was the second batter to depart and scored 39 runs off 76 deliveries. Gill was the last player to get out and made 13 runs off 15 deliveries. India took 35.2 overs to reach the target of 121 runs with seven wickets in hand.

Player Of The Match – Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep picked a fifer in the first innings and finished with five wickets for 82 runs in 26.5 overs. It was his fourth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. In the second innings, Kuldeep picked up three wickets and won the Player of the Match award. It was his third Player of the Match award in 15 Test matches.

Player Of The Series – Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja didn’t get a chance to bat in the game. He picked three wickets in the West Indies’ first innings and another in the second innings. He finished with 104 runs and eight wickets in the series. Jadeja was adjudged the Player of the Series for his all-round performance.
