India Defeats West Indies In 1st Test By An Innings And 140 Runs

India defeated the West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series by an innings and 140 runs. The West Indies were bundled out for 146 runs in their second innings. Alick Athanaze was the only batter who managed to go past the 30-run mark for the West Indies. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for India in the second innings and took four wickets for 54 runs.

Mohammed Siraj picked up three wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar took two and one wicket, respectively. The West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl. West Indies made 162 runs in the first innings, and only a single batter managed to cross the 30-run mark for the team.

Indian batters dominated the West Indies bowlers right from the word go. KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Dhruv Jurel scored a century each for India. It was the third instance of three Indian batters scoring a century each this year. India declared the innings on 448 runs for the loss of five wickets.

Ravindra Jadeja Won The Player Of The Match Award

Jadeja won the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance in the game. He remained unbeaten on 104 runs off 176 deliveries in the first innings. He bowled only three overs in the first innings, but bowled really well in the second innings. Jadeja was the most successful bowler for India in the third innings and took four wickets for 54 runs in 13 overs. 

It was Jadeja’s 11th Player of the Match award in Test matches. He has now won the joint-most number of Player of the Match awards for India. Also, Jadeja has won the most number of Player of the Match awards in India in Test matches. He left behind Anil Kumble, who had won nine Player of the Match awards.

The West Indies has lost four out of the last five Test matches in India by an innings’ margin. It was the 101st Test match between the two teams. A total of 17 Test matches have been won by an innings margin. The West Indies won the first nine games during the 20th century, while India has won the remaining eight matches in the 21st century. The West Indies have crossed 200 runs just twice in their last 15 innings.
