India defeated the West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series by an innings and 140 runs. The West Indies were bundled out for 146 runs in their second innings. Jadeja was the most successful bowler for India in the third innings and took four wickets for 54 runs in 13 overs.

It was Jadeja’s 11th Player of the Match award in Test matches. He has now won the joint-most number of Player of the Match awards for India. Also, Jadeja has won the most number of Player of the Match awards in India in Test matches. He left behind Anil Kumble, who had won nine Player of the Match awards.
The West Indies has lost four out of the last five Test matches in India by an innings’ margin. It was the 101st Test match between the two teams. A total of 17 Test matches have been won by an innings margin. The West Indies won the first nine games during the 20th century, while India has won the remaining eight matches in the 21st century. The West Indies have crossed 200 runs just twice in their last 15 innings.
