The series begins on December 9 in Cuttack and concludes on December 19 in Ahmedabad.
Shubman Gill Inclusion Subject to Fitness
Vice-captain Shubman Gill has been named in the squad for the South Africa T20Is, but his participation remains conditional on fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. Gill suffered a neck injury during the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata and subsequently missed the second Test and the entire ODI series.

The 26-year-old has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s COE in Bengaluru, where he batted for considerable periods over the last few days without showing signs of discomfort. His return will strengthen India’s batting lineup as they prepare for the T20 World Cup 2026 at home.
Hardik Pandya Returns; Rinku Singh and Nitish Reddy Excluded
All-rounder Hardik Pandya makes his much-awaited return to the Indian setup after a two-month injury layoff. His last appearance for India was during the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4s match against Sri Lanka on September 26.
A left quadricep injury kept him sidelined, but he made a strong comeback in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on December 2, scoring an unbeaten match-winning 77 for Baroda against Punjab.

In significant selection decisions, both Rinku Singh and Nitish Kumar Reddy have been excluded from the squad. The duo was part of the ODI setup but failed to make the cut for the T20I series. Jasprit Bumrah returns after being rested for the ODI series, adding firepower to India’s bowling attack.
Rohit Sharma Unveils New Jersey for ICC T20 World Cup 2026
Adding excitement to the squad announcement, former T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma took center stage to unveil India’s jersey for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026.

The grand launch event saw Rohit joined by Mumbai Indians teammate Tilak Varma at the podium, marking a significant moment as India gears up for the home World Cup beginning February 7, 2026.
