The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to resume action after a brief suspension due to the India-Pakistan war. The announcement comes three days after the IPL 2025 season was suspended for a week on account of the India-Pakistan conflict. A ceasefire between the two nations on May 10 influenced the rollback.
The IPL, which was suspended last Friday following hostilities between India and Pakistan, will now take place at six venues, with those for the play-offs still to be decided.
In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the rescheduled IPL 2025, including fixture details, venues, current standings, and playoff scenarios.
IPL 2025 Reschedule: Fixtures & Venues
A total of 17 matches will be played across six venues – Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Ahmedabad – starting May 17, with the IPL 2025 final scheduled on June 3. The revised schedule includes two double-headers, which will be played on two Sundays.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will host the Kolkata Knight Riders at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the first match once the IPL resumes. This will be match number 58 of the tournament.
While the initial plan was to finish the IPL by May 31, the BCCI has now extended it by three days with the final now slated for June 3. It is understood that with the summer picking up, the BCCI wasn’t keen on more double-headers as it would have increased the workload of the players. There are only two double-headers (May 18 and May 25) on successive Sundays.

One of the options available to the BCCI as it finalised the revised schedule was to keep all the remaining matches in Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, far from the Pakistan border and the Line of Control. However, Chennai and Hyderabad won’t witness any more action in the league stages, and it remains to be seen whether they get any play-off fixtures. Kolkata also misses out on sources in the BCCI, saying a forecast of rain in the coming days was the primary reason.
The only team in playoff contention that will lose home advantage in the revised schedule is the Punjab Kings. The franchise was supposed to play two of its remaining home matches (including the called-off one vs. Delhi Capitals) at Dharamsala. Instead, they will now play both those games at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur a venue known for its IPL legacy.
With regards to the play-offs and final which Hyderabad and Kolkata were originally scheduled to host, sources in the board revealed that they are not ruled out, and a final call would be taken in the coming days. In case both are ruled out, Ahmedabad stands a strong chance to host the four games, but sources revealed that another venue could share the load.
What happened to the Dharamshala IPL Match Between PBKS and DC?
The IPL 2025 had been on hold since the mid-match abandonment of the May 8 fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala. The match was called off due to significant technical failure according to official sources. At the time of abandonment, Punjab Kings had scored 122-1 in 10.1 overs.

However, behind the scenes, the real reason for the match abandonment was the escalating India-Pakistan conflict. Around the same time the match was underway, there was a total blackout in Pathankot – only 80km away from Dharamsala – because of a drone strike. Following a phone call from a top BCCI official, the match was called off and on Friday, the BCCI officially suspended the league for a week.
After consultation with the government following the ceasefire announcement on May 10, the BCCI has decided that this abandoned match will be replayed in its entirety on May 24 in Jaipur, moving it away from the sensitive border region to ensure safety.

The IPL Playoffs Scenario – Which Teams are Going to Qualify?
The race to the Indian Premier League 2025 playoffs is heating up with seven teams still in contention for the top four spots.
- IPL 2022 winners, Gujarat Titans, currently lead the IPL 2025 standings and are inching closer to sealing a playoff berth.
- Three-time runners-up Royal Challengers Bengaluru are next on the table followed by Punjab Kings and five-time champions Mumbai Indians. However, none of them have qualified for the IPL 2025 playoffs officially yet.
- Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders also still alive in the race to the IPL 2025 playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals and the Chennai Super Kings were the first two teams to be eliminated from the race to the playoffs. Sunrisers Hyderabad crashed out after their match against Delhi Capitals was washed out on May 5.
As it stands, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Mumbai Indians occupy the top four spots in the IPL 2025 points table.
Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Lucknow Super Giants remain in the IPL 2025 playoff contention. Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings have been eliminated.
Team-by-Team Prospects
- Gujarat Titans (16 points): With three matches remaining against LSG, CSK, and DC, GT needs just one more win to secure qualification and has the best chance to finish in the top two.
- Royal Challengers Bengaluru (16 points): RCB also needs just one win from their remaining three matches against KKR, SRH, and LSG to qualify. They have a strong chance of finishing in the top two.
- Punjab Kings (15 points): With three matches remaining against RR, DC, and MI, PBKS need one win to virtually secure qualification. They have emerged as strong contenders this season.
- Mumbai Indians (14 points): MI have just two matches left against DC and PBKS. They likely need to win at least one to secure their playoff spot.
- Delhi Capitals (13 points): With four matches remaining against GT, MI, PBKS, and the replayed match against PBKS, DC has a good chance to qualify if they win at least two games.
- Kolkata Knight Riders (11 points): With only two matches left against RCB and SRH, KKR need to win both and hope other results go their way.
- Lucknow Super Giants (10 points): LSG have three matches remaining against SRH, GT, and RCB. They need to win all three and depend on other results to have any chance.
