Ravichandran Ashwin, who signed up for the BBL 2025-26, has been ruled out of the tournament. Ashwin took on Instagram to give an update on his participation. He informed his followers that he has sustained a knee injury and that would prevent him from travelling to Australia.

“While training in Chennai to prepare for the upcoming season, I hurt my knee. I’ve had a procedure, and the outcome means I will miss BBL|15. That is tough to say. I was genuinely excited to be part of this group and play in front of you,” Ashwin wrote on Instagram.

“For now it is rehab, recovery, and doing the work to come back stronger. From my first chat with the club, I have felt only warmth from Trent, the staff, the players, and so many of you who have already reached out. Thank you for making me feel at home before a ball has been bowled,” he added.

Ashwin Might Travel To Australia If Doctors Permit

Ashwin further mentioned that if his rehab undergoes perfectly, he might travel to Australia. However, he has not promised anything. “I will be watching every game and cheering for both our women’s and men’s teams. If rehab continues to look up, and only if the doctors are happy, I would love to be around later in the season and say hello in person. No promises. That is the intent,” Ashwin ended his post with this.

In August, Ashwin announced his retirement from IPL and signed up to play for the at least three matches in the BBL. Ashwin also signed up for the ILT20 auction and set his base price USD 120,000. However, Ashwin didn’t find any buyer at the ILT20 auction. As a result, he agreed to play for the entire season of the BBL. He became the first Indian capped player to sign up for a BBL franchise.
