Shubman Gill is rewriting the record books with every innings in the ongoing Test series in England. With two centuries and one double century, the young Indian captain has already piled up 585 runs in just two Tests.

As the third Test at Lord’s approaches, fans and cricket experts expect Shubman to break multiple records if he carries his same form in the Lord’s Test.

Top Records Shubhman Gill Can Break in the Tendulkar Anderson Trophy 3rd Test Match

Here’s a look at the major records that Shubman Gill can break in the 3rd Test:

1. Most Runs in a Test Match as a Captain

Gill has already scored 585 runs in the first two Tests with 2 centuries and 1 double century. Don Bradman has the record for the most runs as captain in a series

The best-ever test, Don Bradman scored 810 runs in the 1936-37 Ashes.

Gill needs just 225 more runs in the remaining three Tests to surpass this 88-year-old record. If he continues his dream from this test match, he can break this one as well.

2. Most Runs in Test Debut Series as Captain

Don Bradman scored 810 runs in his first series as captain.  If Gill overtakes Bradman’s 810, he will also set a new record for the most runs in a debut series as Test captain.

3. First Indian to Score a Hundred in Each of His First Three Tests as Captain

No Indian captain has scored centuries in their first three Test matches as captain. If he hits a century on the Lord’s Test, he will be only behind Alastair Cook (England), who managed to hit five in his first five Tests as captain. Gill can become the first Indian to achieve this feat if he scores a century at Lord’s.

4. Most Runs as an Indian Captain in a Test Series

Gill needs only 148 runs to become the most runs getters in a Test series as an Indian captain. Sunil Gavaskar holds the record of most runs (732) by an Indian captain in a single test series.

He achieved this feat in the 1978 series against the West Indies. He scored 732 runs in six tests at an average of 91.50.

Gill has already scored 585 runs in just two matches, and the Lord’s Test can be the best opportunity for him to break this record.

5. Most Runs as an Indian Captain in England

Gill needs only 18 runs to become the most prolific Indian captain in England. He is only behind Rahul Dravid, who scored 602 runs in the 2011 test series in England. In 2011, he scored 602 runs with an average of 100.33 with 3 centuries.

6. Most Runs by an Indian Batter Against England in Any Series

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 712 runs against England in the 2024 five-Test home series.

He scored at a phenomenal average of 89.00 and included two double centuries (209 in Visakhapatnam and an unbeaten 214 in Rajkot) and three half-centuries. He also struck a record 26 sixes in the series, the most by a player in a single Test series. Gill needs only 128 runs to get another record in his name.

7. Most Runs by an Indian Captain Against England in a Series

Virat Kohli has the record for most runs by an Indian captain against England. This legendary batsman hit 655 runs in the 2016 home Test series. Kohli’s runs came at an average of 109.16 across five Tests with a career-best 235 in Mumbai. Shubman Gill now needs 91 runs to break Kohli’s mark as an Indian captain in a series against England.

8. Most Runs as an Indian Test Batter in a Test Series

Sunil Gavaskar has the record for most runs by an Indian batsman in any Test series. He scored 774 runs in the 1971 away series against the West Indies. Gavaskar achieved this remarkable feat in just his debut series, in only 4  test matches.

Shubman Gill currently has 585 runs in the ongoing series. To break Gavaskar’s record, Gill needs 190 more runs in the remaining matches of the series. He is in such a lethal form, no wonder that he will break this record in the Lord’s test itself.

9. Most Centuries in a Test Series as Captain

Shubman Gill has already scored three centuries as captain in just two Tests. He hit 2 centuries and 1 double century (147 at Leeds, 269 and 161 at Edgbaston) in 2 matches.

Gill is just one century away from equaling the all-time captaincy record of four centuries in a series, and two away from setting a new world record for the most centuries in a series as captain. Only Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar could score 4 centuries in a series.
