India’s newly appointed skipper, Shubman Gil, has been on a terrific run in the ongoing Test series against England. After scoring a century in the first Test, Gill continued his golden touch in the second Test.
On the second day of the second Test, Gill scored a double-century and, with that, shattered a lot of records. He became the first Asian captain to record a double-century in the SENA countries. He is only the third Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid to score a double-century in England.
Gill became the second-youngest captain to score a double-century for India in Test cricket. He achieved this feat at the age of 25 years and 298 days. Only 11 captains have made a double-century in Tests in England. Shubman is the second-youngest captain to score a century in England as well after Graeme Smith. It was Gill’s first double-century in Test cricket. He made his highest individual score in the first Test against England.

England won the toss and elected to field in the second Test. India made three changes to the playing 11 and decided to give rest to Jasprit Bumrah. Akash Deep replaced Bumrah in the playing 11. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar also came into the playing 11.
India lost the wicket of KL Rahul in the ninth over as the centurion from the last match departed after scoring just two runs. Karun Nair was promoted up the order and was the next to be dismissed. Nair made 31 runs off 50 deliveries before getting dismissed by Brydon Carse.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill steadied the ship for India with a partnership of 66 runs for the third wicket. Jaiswal failed to score another century in the series as he was dismissed for 87 runs. India lost the wickets of Rishabh Pant and Nitish before the first day was over.
India piled up 310 runs for the loss of five wickets at the end of the first day of the match. Gill and Ravindra Jadeja continued the play on the second day and added 203 runs for the sixth wicket. It helped India cross the 500-run mark in the match. Jadeja was dismissed after scoring 89 runs off 137 deliveries.
