Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh 1st ODI Highlights

The first ODI that was played at the very same venue saw Sri Lanka winning the toss and electing to bat. The duo of Pathum Nissanka and Nishan Madushka opened the innings for Sri Lanka. However, they couldn’t trouble the scorecard much as Nissanka was dismissed for a duck. Madushka followed him and was dismissed on six runs.

Kamindu Mendis’ innings had the same fate as the batter was out for a duck in the seventh over. At the end of the 10th over mark, Sri Lanka had piled up 50 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets. Kusal Mendis was caught leg before off the Tanvir Islam in the 19th over.

There were a few small partnerships that took place in the middle overs. But all the talking was done by skipper Charith Asalanka as he scored his fifth ODI century and was the second-last batter to depart.

Sri Lanka were bundled out for 244 runs in 49.2 overs. Taskin Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh and picked four wickets for 47 runs in 10 overs. Tanzim Hasan Sakib also had a great outing with the ball and had three wickets to his name.

Bangladesh didn’t have a decent start to their innings as well as they lost the wicket of Parvez Hossain Emon for just 29 runs. Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto helped Bangladesh throw an uppercut. However, this didn’t last long, as Shanto was dismissed after adding 71 runs for the second wicket.

Post this wicket, Bangladesh had a terrible brain fade moment. They went from 100 for two to 105 for eight in just 26 deliveries. Jaker Ali made 51 runs off 64 deliveries, but Bangladesh had already lost the match by then. They were all out for 167 runs, and Sri Lanka won by 77 runs. The trio of Wanindu Hasaranga, Kamindu Mendis, and Maheesh Theekshana took a total of eight wickets for Sri Lanka. Aslanka won the Player of the Match award for his batting performance.
