South Africa will be on a long tour of Pakistan in October. The tour will have two Test matches, three T20Is, and three ODIs. It will be South Africa’s first tour of Pakistan, where they will play all three formats. South Africa has played a total of four Test series in Pakistan and has won two of them. The last series between the two teams was played in 2021, and South Africa faced a whitewash in the two-match series.

South Africa has faced Pakistan in two ODI bilateral series in Pakistan and has won both of them. The Proteas played their first and only bilateral T20I series in Pakistan during the 2021 tour and lost the three-match series by 1-2.

South Africa Tour of Pakistan 2025: Series Details

The first Test match of the series will start on Sunday, October 12 and will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The second Test match is scheduled to be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and will be played from Monday, October 20, to Friday, October 24. The T20I series will start after a gap of four on Tuesday, October 28. The first match will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, while the last two matches will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1, respectively.

The three-match ODI series will start on Tuesday, November 4, followed by the remaining two games on Thursday, November 6 and Saturday, November 8, respectively. All three matches will be played at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

South Africa will play a Test series for the first time since winning the World Test Championship final against Australia. Aiden Markram will lead South Africa in the Test series, as Temba Bavuma was not available for selection as he continues to recover from a grade two left calf strain that he suffered on the recent tour of England. Keshav Maharaj has been named in the Test squad for only the second game.

All the all-format players, apart from Corbin Bosch and Dewald Brevis, have been given rest for the white-ball leg of the tour. David Miller has been appointed the captain of the T20I side, while Matthew Breetzke will lead the Proteas in the ODI series.

The big news for the Proteas will be the return of Quinton de Kock for this series. De Kock had announced his retirement from ODI cricket after the 2023 ODI World Cup and last played for South Africa in T20Is in the final of the T20 World Cup last year. De Kock has been named in both ODI and T20I squads.

Shan Masood will continue to lead Pakistan in Test matches despite his poor captaincy record. Under Masood, Pakistan has won just three out of 12 matches. Pakistan has picked five spinners in the squad for this series. The pae attack consists of Aamir Jamal, Hasan Ali, Khurram Shahzad, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
