The first two ODIs of the Australia tour didn’t begin well for Virat Kohli, as the right-handed batsman got out for zero in the first two games. For the first time in his ODI career, Virat Kohli was dismissed for two consecutive ducks, something that had never happened before.

But Kohli made a strong comeback in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He opened his account on the very first ball and stayed at the crease until the end, showing why he is the chase master.

Kohli played a brilliant unbeaten innings of 74 runs off 81 balls, hitting seven fours, and built a match-winning partnership of 168 runs off 169 balls with Rohit Sharma (121* off 125).

In the 3rd ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Virat Kohli created history. With a flick shot off Nathan Ellis, he crossed 18,436 runs in white-ball internationals, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s legendary record. That single run took his total to 18,437, a number that cricket fans around the world will remember for years.

While Tendulkar scored most of his runs in ODIs and only a few in T20Is, Kohli proved his talent in both formats.

Virat Kohli Limited-Over Career Stats

Since he became the no.1 batter in limited-overs cricket, he is also the 2nd-highest run-getter in ODIs and the 3rd-highest scorer in T20Is

Virat Kohli has now surpassed another of Sachin Tendulkar’s iconic records by reaching 52 ODI centuries, strengthening his position as the player with the most hundreds in the format. He also continues to dominate run-chases—scoring 29 centuries while chasing, well ahead of Tendulkar’s 17.

Kohli’s numbers against Australia remain exceptional as well. In 53 ODIs, he has amassed 2,525 runs, including 8 centuries and 16 fifties, making him one of the most consistent performers against the Aussies. With his latest ODI achievements, Kohli has further widened the gap between himself and the rest in modern one-day cricket.

By becoming the highest run-scorer in white-ball cricket, Kohli made history and fulfilled the words of the legend who once believed in him.
