West Delhi Lions defeated Central Delhi Kings in the final of the Delhi Premier League 2025 on Sunday, August 31. The Nitish Rana-led side chased down the target of 174 runs in 18 overs with six wickets in hand. The Lions had won four out of 10 league stage games and finished in third position in the points table.
The Lions won the toss and elected to bowl. Yugal Saini (65 runs off 48) and Pranshu Vijayran (50 runs off 24) helped the Kings post a total of 173 runs for the loss of seven wickets. No other batter managed to score more than 25 runs for the team. Manan Bhardwaj and Shivank Vashisht took two wickets each for the Lions.
The Lions lost the first two wickets for 15 runs. By the time the sixth over was completed, the team had made 66 runs for the loss of three wickets. At the end of the 10th over, the Lions had posted 96 runs for the loss of four wickets. Nitish Rana and Hrithik Shokeen had an unbeaten partnership of 85 runs for the fifth wicket. Rana made 79 runs off 49 deliveries, while Shokeen scored 42 runs off 27 deliveries. The Lions took 18 overs to reach the target of 174 runs and won the match by six wickets.
Delhi Premier League 2025 Awards
Nitish Rana won the Player of the Match award in the final for his unbeaten knock of 79 runs off 49 deliveries. It was his second Player of the Match award this season. The first one came during the eliminator game against the South Delhi Superstarz.
Arpit Rana of East Delhi Riders finished as the leading run-scorer this season. He made 495 runs in 10 outings at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 146.88. Arpit made six half-centuries this season.
Money Grewal and Simarjeet Singh were the joint-highest wicket-takers this season and took 20 wickets each. Both the bowlers played for the Central Delhi Kings this season.
