The 2025 edition of the Asia Cup is likely to start on September 5 and will run till September 21. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is expected to announce the schedule in the next few days. However, uncertainties loom over whether India will face Pakistan in the tournament.
According to a report in The Times of India, the ACC has planned the initial schedule, and India will face Pakistan in at least two matches during the tournament. The first one will be played on September 7, while the other game will be played on September 14.
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the UAE are the six nations that will participate in the tournament. The report in the Times of India further states that all six teams are close to receiving clearance from their respective governments to play in the tournament.
India is hosting the upcoming Asia Cup. However, all the matches will be played in the UAE. Despite the increased military tensions between India and Pakistan, the Asia Cup will proceed as scheduled.
Will India Participate In The 2025 Asia Cup?
All the reports suggest that India will participate in the Asia Cup 2025. There might be two matches between India and Pakistan. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed the report that suggested India might pull out of the tournament because of the cross-border military tensions with Pakistan following Operation Sindoor.
“Since this morning, it has come to our notice that some news items about BCCI’s decision not to participate in the Asia Cup and Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, both ACC events. Such news is devoid of any truth as till now, the BCCI has not even discussed or taken any such steps regarding the ensuing ACC events, let alone writing anything to the ACC,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia to PTI in May this year.
Sony, the official broadcaster of the Asia Cup, has begun promotional activities for the tournament. The company released a poster featuring players from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
According to a report in Sports Tak, sponsors and media partners have requested that the ACC hold an urgent meeting with the BCCI to release the official schedule of the tournament. The delay in announcing the schedule has already raised concerns about potential revenue losses.
India and Pakistan will play in the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025
In December last year, the BCCI and PCB reached a mutual agreement that India-Pakistan matches scheduled in ICC tournaments between 2024 and 2027 will be held at neutral venues, regardless of which country is officially hosting the tournament.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has already announced the schedule of the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 last month. India and Sri Lanka will host the tournament. India and Pakistan have been scheduled to play the sixth match of the tournament on October 5 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
