The fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League is likely to start in the first week of January 2026. The WPL now has a dedicated window in the women’s Future Tours Programme and is likely to start either on January 6 or January 8, as per a report in Cricbuzz. Other women’s leagues like the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and the Women’s Hundred are already a part of the Future Tours Programme.

This is the reason that these two leagues start at the same time every year. However, that has not been the case with the WPL. The first season took place from March 1 to March 26, the second season started on February 23, and the final was played on March 17. The latest edition in 2024 ran from February 14 to March 15.
The venues of the upcoming season of the WPL are still undecided. The BCCI is yet to confirm which cities would host the matches this year. All the matches during the first season took place in Mumbai, while the second season was played in Delhi and Bengaluru. The third season saw a total of four cities – Baroda, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Mumbai hosting the matches.

WPL Mega Auction is Happening on 27th November 2025
WPL Season 4 is already creating a lot of buzz, especially with major teams looking to rebuild their squads and bring in new talent ahead of the tournament. The WPL Mega Auction is scheduled to take place on 27th November 2025 in Delhi, where franchises are expected to make some bold and strategic moves. Fans are eager to see which domestic and international stars will set the auction floor alight and how the team combinations will shape the upcoming season.

The BCCI had hosted a mega auction after three seasons were completed in the IPL, and the same can happen with the WPL. However, the WPL authorities and the BCCI are yet to finalise a decision. The opinion among the decision makers is still divided. One section wants to go for the mega auction, while the other section is demanding continuity.
A total of 22 matches will take place in the next edition of the league. The BCCI had initially planned to increase the number of teams in the league after three seasons. However, the board is now focused on strengthening the existing format.
