After a historical win at Edgbaston, India will take on England in the third Test of the ongoing five-match series. India won the second Test by a margin of 336 runs, the biggest away win for the team. Shubman Gill led from the front and scored a double-century in the first innings and followed that up with a century in the second innings.

Here’s how the Indian playing might look:

Openers – Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul

India is likely to stick with the tried and tested duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul at the top. Rahul is the only batter in the squad who has scored a century at Lord’s, and his experience might help Jaiswal to settle. The duo has been involved in two 50-plus run partnerships in four outings so far.

Both batters are in great form and have scored a century each. Rahul has made 236 runs in two games at an average of 59, while Jaiswal has scored 220 runs at a strike rate of 73.57. Both batters have made a half-century each as well in the series.

Middle-Order – Karun Nair, Shubman Gill (c), and Rishabh Pant (wk)

Karun Nair was promoted up the order in the last game and batted in the number three position. However, the 33-year-old batter has not been able to find his form in the two matches thus far. He has made 77 runs so far, with 31 being his highest score. Karun landed in England with the India A team and scored a double-century against the England Lions. He is likely to retain his spot in the team and might play a great knock here.

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant have been the backbone of the Indian batting lineup this series. They have been involved in two 100-run partnerships so far in the series. In the Leeds Test, they added 209 runs for the fourth wicket, which is the highest partnership for India in the series.

Gill is the leading run-scorer in the series and has made 585 runs in two matches, which includes three centuries. He was dismissed for eight runs in the second innings of the Leeds Test. Pant has been in fiery form as well and has 342 runs to his name at a strike rate of 81.81. He has hit two centuries and a half-century in four outings so far. Pant has hit the most sixes in the series.

All-Rounders – Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar

The Indian playing 11 featured three all-rounder in the last game – Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar. Gill didn’t utilize Reddy with the ball as the all-rounder bowled just six overs in the game. With the bat, he managed just two runs in two outings. However, Reddy has shown his potential in Test cricket with a century in Australia this year. The Indian team would want to give Reddy another chance to replicate what he did in Australia.

Washington was not at his very best in the first game and scored 54 runs with the bat. He took one wicket of Ben Stokes in the fourth innings, which had a great impact on the match. India has the option of replacing him with someone like Kuldeep Yadav or bringing the left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh in the squad. He can be replaced with a batter as well. However, everything will depend on the condition of the match.

Ravindra Jadeja has been a silent performer for India in the series. He scored a half-century in both innings of the Edgbaston Test. He has scored 194 runs in four outings at a strike rate of 62.58. With the ball, Jadeja has taken two wickets and made a massive impact in the second game.

Bowlers – Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, and Mohammed Siraj

Jasprit Bumrah missed the second Test and might make a return in this Test. He took a five-wicket haul in the first Test and will likely be back to lead the bowling unit in this game. He has taken 42 wickets so far in nine Test matches in England at an average of 24.28. No Indian bowler has gone past the 50-wicket mark in England so far, and Bumrah has the chance to make this list in the series.
