IND v AUS: 1st T20I PREVIEW

Over the last seven years, India has played 16 bilateral T20I series on home soil and lost just once. Australia is the only team to beat India in t20is during this period. There has only been one T20I series played by the visitors since February, and that was in Sri Lanka, where they won 2-1. They were also 1st to announce the WT20 squad at the beginning of the month. In contrast, the hosts have played 29 T20Is since the T20WC and are slated to play six more T20Is against Australia and SA on their home turf. Aus have made only 1 change from their last t20 wc squad. They have included the 25 year old all rounder Tim David. Though he has represented Singapore 14 times at T20 level, he was on Cricket Australiaโ€™s radar for the upcoming WT20 since the past one year and is all set to make his intl debut on the 20th sept at Mohali against India. 282 runs at a strike rate of 146 in CPL 2021, 218 runs at SR 163 in 2021/22 BBL and 251 runs at SR 199 in PSL 2022, 186 runs at 216 SR in IPL 2022 were the last 4 T20 assignments for David where he came out with flying colors. The strike rates are too good for a batter playing as a finisher. The Maxwell - David Combo at the death screams destruction in the end overs.

With Warner resting for the tour, Marsh, Starc and Stoinis ruled out with injuries, Glenn Maxwell will have to carry the majority of load in the batting department. It has been a rough time for Aaron Finch with the bat, while Steve Smith is expected to play at 3 in Marsh's absence. The decision is to decide whether to start with Inglis or Wade, the latter has performed exceedingly well in the BBL as a opener.

This is India's full strength side and is boosted by the return of Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah. Despite Axar being nearly as good as a like-for-like replacement for Ravindra Jadeja, Jadeja's absence has unbalanced the side a little. Karthik had the best SR among batters in the IPL with at least 300 runs, won 2 Man of the Match awards for India in bilaterals later, yet when it came to the Asia Cup he played a total of 1 ball. Hooda's part-time off spin is the only reason he got the nod over DK despite being batted out of position as a finisher. The spot of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant in the 11 has been subject to too many questions. Since 2021, KLR has been averaging 13 against top sides and Rishabh Pant has very few match defining innings under his belt in the 52 innings he has played so far. The major criticism surrounding Rahul is his SR in Powerplay which has been around 130

Key Players & Fantasy Picks

Hardik Pandya

Since his return from the injury, he has put a brilliant case for being one of the finest all rounders in the t20 format. With captaincy and leading his IPL team to a title victory he has emerged as a more mature player. 487 runs in 2022 IPL and Man of the match performance in the final with the ball. 400 runs at a SR of 142 in last 18 t20is and 13 wkts including a 4 fer against Eng makes him one of the most utility players in the format.

Glenn Maxwell

He has the best SR for a batter with minimum of 800 runs since 2021 season of the IPL and add to that he gives 3-4 every game consistently at a meagre economy. Maxwell's explosive game is not just limited to t20s, he has been striking at over 140 in ODIs post the 2019 WC. His bowling has improved leaps and bounds making him one of the best all rounders in t20 cricket. The biggest Challenge in front of him is Bumrah and Chahal who have dismissed him 7 and 5 times respectively.

Virat Kohli

35(34), 59*(44), 60(44), 0(4), 122(61), while these nos may not appear great considering the scoring rates until the Afghanistan game but there were shades of the Old Virat. Compared to what he was like in England two months ago, he appears to be in better shape. And against Afghanistan there were all signs the rough patch is behund him and Virat 2.0 has arrived.

Adam Zampa

Missed out on the Man of the tournamnet award in WT20 by a small margin . Since 2021, Zampa has had a great run in t20is with 32 wkts at an eco of 7.03. He is a good head to record against almost every indian batter and is going to be a key factor in middle overs.
