Mumbai Indians: Hardik Pandya

Although under his captaincy, MI had their worst-ever IPL season in 2024, they bounced back the next season. Hardik’s experience and big-match temperament have now earned the respect of his team, and fans are expecting him to replicate the success of the Gujarat Titans in 2022 and 2023.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar is the only RCB captain to lead his team to win the 1st IPL title after 18 years. As expected, he will continue as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2026.

Rajat Patidar is the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from IPL 2025 after the management released Faf du Plessis. Patidar is a batter who can destroy spinners right from the very first ball. Before becoming RCB captain, he had an unexpected rise, starting as an injury replacement in 2022 and impressing with his consistent performances.

Under Patidar’s captaincy, RCB won 8 out of 11 matches in the IPL 2025 league stage and became the only team to win all away matches. Statistically, he scored 312 runs at an average of 24 and a strike rate of 143.77 in the 2025 IPL season.

The RCB management and coaching staff have expressed strong confidence in his ability to lead the team going forward for more IPL seasons.

Delhi Capitals: Axar Patel

Axar Patel became the captain of Delhi Capitals (DC) from IPL 2025, succeeding Rishabh Pant. Axar is a star all-rounder and the longest-serving player in the franchise since 2019.

With backing from a strong leadership group, including senior players like Mitchell Starc and Axar, Delhi Capitals will aim to win their 1st-ever title.

Replacing the previous leadership structure, Rahane brings a calm and composed approach to the Eden Gardens. KKR is looking for stability and better tactical execution under his guidance to reclaim their status as title contenders.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins is the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from the IPL 2024 season, replacing Aiden Markram. Before leading SRH, Cummins had a highly successful international captaincy, leading Australia to victories in the World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup, both finals won against India. This made him one of the most successful and respected captains in recent cricket history.

Since Cummins has become the skipper of SRH, he has changed the team’s fortune and made it the most lethal team of the season. In the 2024 IPL season, SRH finished the league stage in 2nd place with 8 wins in 14 matches and went on to lose the final to Kolkata Knight Riders.

As a player, Cummins offers strong bowling leadership, drawing on his experience as a premier fast bowler. Statistically, as captain, Cummins has led SRH to 15 wins in 30 matches.

Pat Cummins brings strong international captaincy credentials, frontline fast bowling, and tactical leadership, which are expected to improve the team’s performance consistently in IPL 2026 and beyond, taking over from Aiden Markram, who captained SRH in IPL 2023 but was replaced after a poor team finish.

Punjab Kings: Shreyas Iyer

Punjab Kings completely overhauled their squad ahead of IPL 2025 and made Shreyas Iyer the captain of Punjab Kings (PBKS), who was acquired for a record price of ₹26.75 crore. He led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title in 2024 and the Mumbai team to victories in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Under his leadership, PBKS reached the IPL final for the first time in 11 years in 2025, and he became the only captain to lead 3 different teams in the final. He combines his leadership with strong batting performances, scoring 604 runs in 17 matches during the 2025 season at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07. This leadership and batting prowess have earned him respect and optimism for PBKS’s push to win their maiden IPL title.

PBKS management, including head coach Ricky Ponting, will keep Iyer as a captain to become champion for the 1st time.

Lucknow Super Giants: Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant is confirmed to continue as captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for IPL 2026. Despite a challenging debut season as captain and batter in IPL 2025, where he scored only 269 runs in 14 matches at an average of 24.45 and a strike rate of 133.16, LSG management will show faith in his leadership. Under Pant’s captaincy, LSG finished 7th on the points table even though they had one of the strongest batting lineups.

Director of Cricket Tom Moody, head coach Justin Langer, and bowling coach Bharat Arun will back him as he can single-handedly change the favour of the match.

Pant’s presence in retention meetings and the trust displayed by the franchise indicate that he will continue to be the focal point of LSG’s leadership and on-field strategy moving forward.

Gujarat Titans: Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill will continue to lead the Gujarat Titans for IPL 2026. He took over the captaincy since Hardik Pandya traded to the Mumbai Indians for the 2024 edition. He has led the team for 27 matches, during which the team won 14. In 2025, the team finished in 3rd position but lost to MI in the Eliminator. Gill has scored 2449 runs for GT in 4 seasons at an average of 46.20.
