The Plunket Shield 2025-26 is the 100th season of New Zealand’s domestic first-class cricket competition, starting on November 18, 2025. The defending champions are Northern Districts, who won their 9th title last season.

  • Each team will get 12 points after winning the match. 
  • For the lost, the team will receive no points.
  • If the game ended in a draw, neither team would earn any points. 
  • In the event of a tie, each team will receive 6 points. 
  • For an abandoned (without a ball bowled) and no result (drawn one-innings match), both teams will get 4 points.
  • The batting team will receive the first point at 200 runs, the second point at 250 runs, the third point at 300 runs, and the fourth point at 350 runs
  • The bowling team will receive the first point at 3 wickets, the second point at 5 wickets, the third point at 7 wickets, and the fourth point at 9 wickets

Format Of Plunket Shield 2025-26

The format for this season is a round-robin, with 6 teams playing 8 games in the group stage. A total of 24 four-day matches will be played, with each team facing 3 teams twice and 2 other teams once. The table topper at the end of the league stage will be declared the champion, as there is no final match for this tournament.
