LSG v CSK: Match 7 Preview & Prediction

The Lucknow SuperGiants take on the defending Champions Chennai Super Kings in the 7th match of the 2022 IPL at the Brabourne Stadium,.
Both teams started their campaigns by being reduced to four and five wickets early in their innings. 2 of the highest scorers from last season, Ruturaj Gaikwad and KL Rahul, failed to open their accounts and were sent back to the pavilion in the very first over.
Lucknow had a loaded batting line up in KL, QDK, Lewis and Manish Pandey but the star of the night was a 22 year old debutant from Delhi Ayush Badoni who scored
54 from 41 deliveries. Deepak Hooda started the counter attack around the 9th-10th over mark and helped Lucknow put up a competitive total on the board. Lucknow were in the game until a late flourish by Rahul Tewatia who blasted 40 off 24 deliveries and a cameo by another debutant Abhinav Manohar who held his nerve in the last 2 overs.
CSK were never in the game against KKR. A late Vintage MS Dhoni finish helped them post something on the board.
With QDK, Lewis and Krunal in the opposition, CSK may field Mahesh Theekshana in place of Mitchell Santner. Lucknow could go unchanged.

Form Update

Key Players

Lucknow Super Giants

KL Rahul: 2549 runs at a SR of 149. No one has scored more runs than him since 2018. KL has put consistent 500+ runs seasons for 4 times in a row. It wont be a surprise if he wins the Orange cap again at the end of the season. He scored 98* in his last game agaisnt CSK.

Quinton de Kock: He was one of the pillars of MI's batting line up. After switching to MI, QDK scored 500+ in 2 seasons. In Powerplay, he has scored the 2nd most runs in the last 3 seasons. He strikes at 152 against Pace since 2019.

Ravi Bishnoi: The 2020 U19 WC star succesfully made it into the national side in the recently held home series against WI. He won the MoM award on debut. He has an eco of 7 and taken 24 wkts since his debut in 2020 out of which 20 came in the middle overs.

Avesh Khan:He broke the headlines when he became the most expensive uncapped player in the history of IPL when he was bought by LSG for 10 crores. Last IPL was a breakthrough season for this pacer from Madhya Pradesh. He took the 2nd most wickets (24) at an esteemed economy of 7.4. That was the 2nd best economy for a pacer after Siraj and only second to Yuzi Chahal if we consider minimum 15 wickets criteria. He took 10 wickets at the death at an economy of 8.9.

Chennai Super Kings

Ruturaj Gaikwad: 635 runs in IPL 2021. This was a record breaking season for the youngster who scored most runs in an edition by an uncapped player and won the Orange cap. Ruturaj has been in terrific form since then. He was the top scorer in VHT with 603 runs at an average of 150 and scored 259 runs in SMAT at an average of 51 and a SR of 149. He knows how to pace his innings, understands his role in a partnership and takes on favourable match ups. This was evident during his opening partnerships with Faf du Plessis last year.

Ravindra Jadeja: The all rounder has reinvented himself as a batter in this format. In the last 2 seasons he has scored 459 runs at a SR of 157. In death overs, he has scored 342 runs at a Sr of 204. He has the 2nd best SR in this phase along with Kieron Pollard. Maybe, captaincy got the better of him in the 1st game as he played an innnings striking belkow 100.

Ambati Rayudu: With all the limelight surrounding Faf and Gaikwad, Rayudu's contribution last season went under the radar. He scored 256 runs in middle overs and death at a SR of 150.6 with 17 sixes. Rayudu wasted no time and went from ball 1 in almost every game. Needs 84 runs to complete 4000 runs in the IPL.

Dwayne Bravo: Bravo took 3 wkts against KKR in the opening encounter. CSK's bowling attack is relatively inexperienced in terms of IPL games played. With Chahar out for few more games, Bravo's role becomes more important.
