IPL 2023 MATCH PREVIEW: GT v DC

Undoubtedly, the absence of Pant is having a significant impact on the DC team, as he plays a crucial role in their setup. However, their problems extend beyond his absence, and stem from deeper issues within the team. The management has displayed a lack of flexibility in their selection choices and has failed to manage the batting order effectively. For eg, Rilee Rossouw in the past 14 months in T20 cricket

PSL - 40/167
Blast - 2nd highest run scorer with 623 runs at 192 SR
96 v Eng
100 v Ind
100 v Ban
453 runs at 171 SR in PS

Playing Salt in place of him made little sense but since he had runs under his belt and got DC to a flyer he will probably play the remaining games as well.
David Warner and Mitchell Marsh have been the major disappointments for their team. Warner's performance this season has been his poorest in terms of strike rate, having managed to hit only one six so far. Marsh, who has been outstanding in white ball cricket over the past two years and delivered an impressive performance in the BBL and ODI series against India not long ago, has failed to live up to expectations. Last game he decided to step up he was on the receiving end in spite of a stupendous performance with both bat and the ball.
Yuvraj Singh ( twice) is the only other cricketer to end up on the losing side after scoring 50 and scalping 4 wkts in the same match.
Despite having the game under their control, the management of Delhi made some questionable decisions by sending Sarfaraz and Priyam Garg ahead of Axar, who has been one of the best batters for the team and has been consistently striking the ball well in the lower order. Additionally, the inclusion of Priyam Garg seemed illogical when the team already had the talented Yash Dhull in their ranks.
Several such decisions made by Delhi's management this season have been not only strange but also lacking any logical reasoning. As a result, the team now finds themselves in a difficult situation, needing to win all their remaining matches to stay in the race for the playoffs. Unfortunately, this task seems increasingly improbable for them.

Except for one glitch when Rinku Singh went on a rampage and smashed 40 runs in 7 consecutive deliveries, Gujarat Titans have been flawless this season, just like the previous one. Saha has been taking full advantage of the powerplay overs, they gave Sudharshan a run at 3 and scored consecutive half-centuries, and a typical Tewatia finish helped them secure another 2 points. Vijay Shankar after a horrific last season has played 3 outstanding knocks. It seems like everything they touch turns to gold. In addition, they made a shrewd move by bringing back Mohit Sharma, their top performer with the ball in the last game, who was last seen in 2020.

Key Players and Fantasy Picks

David Warner:

He has been among runs but his SR is nowhere near to the standards he has set. So far he has managed to hit only 1 six in the tournament after scoring 306 runs. Irrespective of his scoring rate, Warner is a bank and should be a blind pick in any Fantasy XI

Axar Patel: His batting has been a revelation this year in all 3 formats. Bailed India and his franchise out number of times from crunch situations. In addition to that, he was the man of the 2nd last match game against SRH for his all round performance.

Mitchell Marsh:

Since 2021, Marsh had astonishing nos in white ball cricket, especially in t20is where he was Australia’s top scorer prior to the WC and ended up being the MoM in the final. He continued his form in the BBL this year with scoring 347 runs at an SR of 142 and scored around 200 runs against Ind in ODI series at a SR of 110. But he failed to replicate it in the IPL so far and finally came good in the last game with a 50 and a 4 wkt haul.

Rashid Khan:

He should be your automatic rather a blind pick in your fantasy 11. He is arguably the greatest t20 bowler with more than 500 wickets. He is the only bowler to pick 15 + wkts in a season for 6 consecutive times. In addition to that, he knows how to use the long handle down the order.

Hardik Pandya:

Pandya has been struggling with the bat and his last 25 t20 innings paint a poor picture. His SR is around 120 and hasn’t played a “good” innings apart from that knock against Lucknow where he smashed 66 in a low scoring game. But given his bowling and ability to pick the odd wkts in the powerplay its difficult to rule him out of the game. He had a memorable season last year where he scored 487 runs and was the MoM in the final.
